The best thing for me was the sense of recognition at much of the verbal humour. It was Canadian with that familiar bite. Not being beaten over the head with the "isn't this funny" Hollywood overkill, was a relief, as was the confirmation that a quirky Canadian film is possible (why should the Australians have that corner of the market tied up?) The movie isn't perfect but there were enough visual details, asides and surreal events (gotta love those beavers, the opposing team just for their costumes, the wired commentator, and alert cheaters) The opening credits to an old camp song was a great touch. These more than make up for the cow scene (a pile of manure would have been as amusing) and the seeming improbable conclusions to the bonspiel and the sub-plot of a character's debt. Definitely worth seeing if you like Australian films and like the quirky.
