The heart of "Rosemary's Baby" is to me its sympathy with Roman Catholicism, whether or not the doctrine of the Church is properly understood by Roman Polanski who made the film. Guy, Rosemary's traitorous husband, is associated in acting career with "Luther" but Rosemary has a Roman Catholic background. The Castavets, rabid devil worshippers, often malign the Church and slander the Vatican to discourage Rosemary from relying on its moral authority. Also Minnie and Roman Castavet seem to be able to guarantee success for Guy in the Hollywood power structure if he will promote Satanic ambition of making the United States the center of devilish world domination by betraying Rosemary into becoming the mother of the Antichrist. Despite the grim ending of "Rosemary's Baby, " it is dubious who possesses the decisive power, though the witch clan are confident of their victory over Rosemary's faith. Yet Rosemary's spectacular defiant contempt of Guy and the other conspirators is quite forceful, symbolized by the climactic spit in his face responding to his appeal for her approval of the group, an impassioned condemning of their scheme. Rosemary's love as a mother does not make her any kind of Devil's advocate, and this love would not cause spiritual damnation along with possible degradation of the body (Teresa's fate)
