David Lynch's tale of proverbial American young innocents confronting the essence of evil invading their idyllic small town. Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) a middle class youth pursues grisly clues pointing to abominable crimes, but his irresistible urge to detect the monstrous causes require unbelievable courage to persevere and also reveal a grim aspect of his inner self which he symbolically confronts in the person of homicidal maniac gangster Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) Jeffrey's ordeal of becoming an adult and of self-discovery means his blithely compatible life with Sandy (Laura Dern) conflicts with his secret, guilty attachment to the mysterious anguished Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rosselini) A somber allegory of superficial optimism and the dangers of complacency in the American heartland seen as "earthly paradise.".
