A. I. : ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is a masterpiece... Almost. The blueprint and soul of this movie are pure Stanley Kubrick but the style and execution are typically Spielberg: visually stunning, glossy and predictably sentimental. Shot by shot you can feel Kubrick's influence and in some instances you can see where he wouldn't have gone and let the story tell itself. But Spielberg can't help himself and in the end he tags on 4 separate endings that relentlessly break the spell of A.I... As an hommage to a dear friend and cinematic giant A.I. rocks... As a movie and a sci-fi classic it's tragically flawed. Don't be mistaken, this movie is highly recommended: incredible performances, stunning visuals and state of the art FX are just the beginning of this movie's selling points. A summer sleeper if ever there was one.
