This is probably the last movie we'll get to see Paul Newman play a significant role in, and while the fragility of age is visible, it hasn't diminished his on screen persona at all. I thought this movie was fantastic. It was intelligent, very well acted by everyone - Tom Hanks has two Oscars for a reason, and there's no reason why he shouldn't get a third in his lifetime. It was Orson Welles who espoused that love scenes should be filmed as if they were fight scenes and fight scenes should be filmed as if they were love scenes. It works beautifully here.

From my point of view this movie worth 10/10. However compare to other movies and as a directors point of view this movie is worth 9/10. For those who read this, you should know the value of this movie at least for me is 10 cause at the end of the day, IT IS TOM HANKS,.

Watching this movie, I told my wife that the cinematography was incredible... Remembered that when it won the Oscar. Incredibly filmed, especially the shooting scene at the end. PAY ATTENTION!!! Good film.

The Road To Perdition - good movie! But worth waiting for the video store to rent it. Tom Hanks, in my opinion was out-of-character in this movie. Don't get me wrong though, he is an excellent actor. I would just prefer to see him in other scenarios. It was a good story but unfortunately a little predictable. It still kept my interest though.

Hi: I am amused by all of the half-wit writers who rate this movie as poor or average because they find it "boring". Here is my suggestion, get a brain/active imaganation and you will then appreciate the finest movie of 2002.

I liked the story. I liked the characters. I found the movie a little long, howerver it comes together in the end. Good story.

I guarantee that Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and Jude Law will be nominated for this movie. To those who trashed it, may you eat my words.

Yawn!!! Although Tom Hanks gives a great performance as do the other actors, they left out one very important detail in keeping ones attention... DIALOGUE!!! It's a dark movie, and drags out way too long. I won't even be renting this one.

This is my new favorite movie! I think this film deserves an oscar for everything! Too bad we didnt get to see Hanks family after they got shot to death. Go see this film-you will not be upset or bored. I own the soundtrack which is great-and also the book that has great pictures!

I like Tom Hanks, and the movie looks great, but could this movie be more boring?!? I was checking my watch every 5 minutes, I can't say that it sucked, but it was nothing special. The best part of this movie was Jude Law, forget Tom Hanks for an oscar, give it to Jude Law, he deserves it more!!!

Who evers say this movie is bad must be out of his mind, not only did Hanks did a great performance but so did the rest of the cast, beside this the plot was very good. The photography was excellent. This movie definitely deserves at least 3 oscars.

Amazing, of course Tom Hanks does another brilliant job. Over all a very serious movie thats meant to move the heart but the little jokes in it were put in with perfect timing and makes it show how light hearted things can be in the worst situations.

I have to say two things... How could a movie directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty) be bad in any way... there is only appreciation to think about when watching this movie. This movie touches humanity in a way that very few movie directors can do and I loved wvery minute of it!

I really enjoyed this movie. This story has a deep meaning. O'Sullivan is just as devoted to his private life as an upstanding husband and father of two young boys. But when those worlds collide, taking the lives of his wife and younger son, O'Sullivan and his surviving son leave their sedate home life behind and embark on a startling journey of revenge. Road to Perdition is thoughtful, profound, elegant and riveting, a movie with far more to give than we have been conditioned to expect in the middle of summer. This is a gift that bears remembering.

Not a great Hanks movie. Expected much better. Difficult to watch because most settings were so dark. The sound was quite low and hard to listen to. Had to strain oneself to stay focused. Very dry and slow flow. Hanks movies are usually satisfaction guaranteed, but this one missed the mark.

Disappointing, in my books. Perhaps it was due to the fact that I waited nearly two months to see it and all the hype and trailers had time to sink in, but this movie failed to impress me. Tom Hanks was his usual great self of course, and Paul Newman deserves an Oscar. But great acting does not make a great movie; it can only improve it a bit. Aside from the acting, the direction was terrific, Sam Mendes of American Beauty fame did a great job setting the tone and painting a realistic, convincing picture of 1930s Chicago. And I have to say that for most of the film, I was ready to rate it an 8 or a 9, but I felt the movie went absolutely nowhere. By the end, I was left unsatisfied and empty, having realized that there was no point to the movie. Perhaps it is due to the fact that Road to Perdition is based on a comic, oh sorry, a "graphic novel" which is really nothing more than a big expensive comic book aimed at the older crowd. The story seemed kind of comic bookish, especially Jude Law's character. As I was watching it, I had no trouble visualizing what the comic must have looked like. Anyways, go see it if all you care about is acting and direction, but if you want some actual substance and a plot, you may be disappointed. I think I'll try Pluto Nash or Fear Dot Com. Since everybody is relentlessly trashing them, I figure there has to be some mérit to them.

This movie deservedly is "movie of the year 2002." No other movie I have seen this year, and I have seen many, has the various elements that characterize this movie, making it a wonderful drama that is worth every second of your time. I highly recommend it!

First off, if one doesn't like quality movies, don't spend money on it... It's a fantastic piece of work, both main actors (Hanks and the kid) play their characters with strongly emotional undertones and it's seamless. The scriptwork is better than average and casting is very good. Technical work is also very good but what I find most interesting is the use of very raw dark colors and tones that give, when needed (and the timing is of the essence) , the play of colours and tones extrapolates the dark mood of a particular scene. It's a dark and philosophical movie, it really makes you think about good and evil; how can one person judge by his or her morals, another human being. Bravo!

A beautiful movie not to be missed. Ten out of ten. Just when the movie seems to veer on the edge of sloppy sentimentality, it corrects its course and instead delivers a beautifully photographed, well acted and well crafted drama with a finely attuned attention to detail that is exceedingly rare in todays cinema.

A wonderful movie, with great acting and a plot that is not "typical" Hollywood. The struggle for redemption, and wanting something better for your children. A classic tale well told.

Again Tom Hanks proves how an amazing actor he is. He took quite a risk in chosing this role I. E. playing a killer for the Irish mob. However through Hanks' brilliant acting ability, you have no choice but to care for this father who took whatever job available to survive during the Depression and then support him on his quest for revenge for the murder of his family. Paul Newman and Jude Law should be both nominated for Best Supported Actors. Even though the ending was somewhat predictable this movie is worth seeing due to the amazing acting performances from all. It should received numerous nominations at Oscar time.

Quoted "Oscar Winning Material! " Well, not really. I was a little dissapointed in this movie. It was extremely predictable, but it threw in a few shockers that made me jump out of my seat! Most of the movie did portray the depression era quite well; a dark, depressing atmosphere, women and children who never spoke out of turn and a father that will do anything to keep food on his family's table. However, the mob aspect of the movie was predictable. The typical unstable son of a mob boss is jealous of Tom Hanks because the boss considers orphaned Tom more of son to him than his own blood. It wasn't hard to tell what was going to happen next. There were some funny parts between Tom and his son, but the humour didn't seem to fit. Especially when they are running for their lives. I am a big Tom Hanks fan and will go and see any movie that he is in. I wouldn't consider this movie a bomb, but I don't see it as Oscar winning material..

The movie was fairly satisfying, but people are making too much of a fuss about it. Critics are comparing this film with the Godfather! I went into the theatre with very high expectations and came out disappointed. Tom Hanks put in a good performance, but I think Jude Law did a much better job as a supporting actor.

I went into this film with very high expectations due to the impressive cast of Paul Newman, Tom Hanks, Jude Law, and Director Sam Mendes (Amercian Beauty) , so thats maybe why I left the theater feeling very dissapointed. The ending was entirely predictable and although I find Mr. Hanks to be a good actor he was out of his league playing a gangster. The performance just wasn't believable. The standout performance was by Jude Law. When will this guy get some respect and recognition. I have always felt he should play the next James Bond when Pierce Brosnan hands the role over. He has the look and swagger of a coll Bond. Paul Newman was good, although in a limited role. The lighting and shots of the film were impressive but these things didn't manage to cover up the storys main flaw; PREDICTABILITY. In all I would say its worth to rent but not worth 10$. The use of color and brighntness in a movie so dark and uncomprimising was outstanding! Also worthy to note is the incredible use of sound in the movie. Although there is alot of shooting, and at times all the killing feels tiresome, even for an action addict like me, the movie still pulls it off as being brilliantly scripted. Tom Hanks perfoms marvelously, and he doesn't say a whole lot for the first part of the movie, you just kind of get a feeling that there is something wrong. It takes alot to develope a feeling without much script like that. He does it very well.

I saw the movie and I was bored from the beginning to the end. Tom Hanks is a good actor usually but after this movie he should start thinkin' about to change profession. And Paul Newman... man you have grown old so leave the job to the new kids in the block. Yes, I'm sayin' new kids in the block because they would have done a better job than you did. And the little kid (wanna be Haley Joel Osmond) should really start thinking about going back to school and leave the movie business. I am giving it a 2 because I only liked the guns in the movie and the music.

An excellent follow-up to American Beauty for Mendes. Hanks, Newman, Law and the whole cast provide solid performances. A well-crafted and enjoyable film. A story of fathers and sons, loyality and betrayal, and love and hate. Well done and worth seeing. See you at Oscar time.

I would give Road to Perdition a 9/10 mainly because of the soundtrack. Sam Mendes uses the soundtrack to carry the emotion of the movie and for me personnaly, that's always nice when it's well made. I just finished off reading review of a 3/10 critic (I think 2 or 3 critics down: 2.8. 2002 - sm, starman@ - âge: 36-49) and I have to say, I will most probably read the book since it seems to be very interesting from his description. Maybe after reading the book I will agree with the other critic, but in the meantime, I have to stick with a 9/10.
