The Two Towers is a wonderful adaptation of the book. Yes, granted there are changes in the story, but, do they alter the essence of the story? The answer is no. The story is about this small group of people trying to attempt an insurmountable task. Are they going to succeed? What are they going through? What's in their mind while they are on their joureny? I think the Two Towers has potrait the character development very well, though I would like to see a little more of Merry and Peppin. But, remember, LOTR is a huge book, it is just not possible to fit everything into the movie, even 3 movies. Let's put aside the prejudice of book is always better than the movie and just look at the movie itself. I think everybody has to agree that it is an excellent movie. If you want everything that is exactly following the book, read the book then. I would definitely recommend everybody to see this movie. However, if you haven't seen the first one, you will probably have a hard time following the story.
