This is truely one of the greatest film of all time. I've watched martial arts movies since I was a little kid, and this is easily one of the best. I personally prefer "Hero" than "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", not to say "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" is not good, but "Hero" follows the principle of 'Wuxia' (way of warriors) closer. The gravity defying style of sword play and fighting is found in every 'Wuxia' fiction and "Hero" has had the closest resemblance of the fictional world of 'Wuxia'. In that world, warriors, the good ones, follows certain principle of honour, courage and bravery."Hero" has definitely presented that in the best possible way, although some people may find the sacrifice of those people made stupid. The cinematography is absolutely fantastic, equally as impressive as "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon". The story is set at a real historical time right before the Emperor of Qin united the 7 warring states and created the China (Qin dinasty) that resembled today's. In his reign, he had accomplished much by building the Great Wall of China and unified chinese language. But he was also one of the most horrific tyrant in Chinese history. His story has been depicted in a lot of chinese movies, one of the latest is "Emperor and the assassins" with Gong Li."Hero" is based on a real historical time but with fictional major characters. The movie is very well made and you won't be disappointed, except if you like realistic style of sword fighting, then you will find the sword play in this movie is too unrealistic for you, though there is one fighting sequence that is more realistic based. The acting is superb. Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung have both won best actor and actress awards in the Chinese equivalent of Oscar several times. Jet Li is one of the greatest martial artist of all time. Donnie Yen is also one of the very accomplished martial artist and movie actor (I wish I can see more of him in the movie) This all-star cast has done a wonderful job in bringing the story to life.
